Young Adults in America
Following college graduation or completion of a promising vocational certificate or professional licensing program, new workers need to prepare an effective resume and decide where they want to build a long-term career.
In addition to the Top 25 Cities in America for Business and Jobs, there are also 10 major US Cities that are particularly accommodating to young professionals, including higher wages, lower cost of living, good entertainment and sports activities, and other dimensions they seek.
These professionals include new college graduates and those that have 10 or fewer years competed in their lifelong careers. They would be the group that regularly joins the Junior Chamber of Commerce in their cities. Information about this list has been compiled by Kipplinger Magazine, US News and World Reports, Forbes Magazine, AT&T, and other entities over the last several decades with the following results.
The top 10 cities on the list include large cities where successful graduates of the best American universities settle by the end of their first decade of employment. These universities are institutions that attract the highest enrollments and graduate the largest proportion of students, especially in nationally recognized programs; and place the largest numbers of new professionals successfully into the world of work.
The 10 cities, on average, pay young adults higher salaries than the rest of America pays. They are cities in which the most opportunities exist for new business ventures and expansions exist. They also are home to large numbers and proportions of young, single individuals.

Top 10 Careers for Young America through 2050
- Computer Programmers and Software Engineers (IT)
- Day Care Providers [Owners & Directors]
- Elder Care Specialists [Specialists and Owners]
- Employment Specialists [Staff and Owners] & HR Managers
- Environmental Engineers
- Home Health Aide Agency Owners & Directors
- Management Consultants / Financial Advisors
- Networking Specialist (IT)
- Physician's Assistants
- Social Services Coordinators
The factors that make the above list the Top 10 Careers in the 21st century are:
- Aging and dying members of the Greatest Generation and the Baby Boomers.
- Increased lifespans through improved medicine and nutrition. Peole live longer and need care for longer numbrs of years.
- Rising Child Care and Adult Babysitting/Companion costs.
- Advances and expansion in technologies. Infomration Technology (IT) is used widely among the Top 10.
- Job distributon of one job among multiple worksites, "Hot desking", and telecommuting --
Hot Desking is very interesting; it's a lot like the old job sharing of the 1970s and 1980s, as portrayed in the Dolly Parton - Jane Fonda movie 9 to 5 of that era.
Desks within a corporation are shared by several individuals that use them at different times during a 24-hour period, becaase they work different shifts, telecomute for part of their day, and/or work in the field with customers for portions of each work day. They do not need a desk for a full 8-hour work shift. There is also a 21st century trend toward more flexible work hours, but with employees on call 7 days a week, and this makes a hot desk useful.
Healthcare, Social Services types of positions (especially dealing the aged and their famiies) and Information Technology jobs will provide the most job opportunities in the 21st century. Green engineering will increase continually throughout the century and provide stable business and job markets.

Dear Patty, thanks for a well-researched and written article. I agree with msms that this article is worth preserving for reference.
Very big and well organized job, Patty! When I already think, that's more data than I need, you come with something even better. Thank you very much!
Big corporate world is getting less and less popular, because we mean just a number in a big corporation, which/who needs to make big profit for the company, otherwise is indifferently sacked overnight. I prefer smaller groups or even own private business.
This is really interesting, even though I don't qualify as young according to this!:) Thanks Patty!
I love that New York and San Francisco are the top two because those are the two cities I'm looking at relocating to. Although I love NY, my husband does not. SF is looking good because I'm from California, and most of my family is there.
When I move to the states this will be very useful to me.I hope this helps lots of people.
IT is really the top job in the US, but most company do outsource programmers and other web development projects because it is cost-effective.
Patty, this is an incredible article, thank-you. Must've taken you a long time to research, you've done a wonderful job.
As a young person myself I could use something like this, thanks for the info.
Really interesting and different hub! Thanks for the advice! :)
This is an interesting place.
This is very true... nice, well put together list
-Nicki B.
This is a job well done by you, keep it up.
very good advice, thanks!

Thanks for Nice and great information. Nice Hub
Beautiful job.
Hmmm. Just moved from number 3 to number 4... Guess I should have consulted your hub first.
Thanks Patty =)
One of these days I'll have the wind taken out of my wings and I'll settle down...hopefully I'll still be young. ;)
I've a CCNA and A+ cert, so I imagine..since I still keep on top of the latest trends, I'll be open to re-insert myself in the IT field.
Sincerely,
G|M

This is the kind of hub I've been looking for.
What can I say? WOW! GREAT HUB! I always know where to go to get links to compliment my own related hubs. Thanks for the information and the various "slants" on the way you present your details.
Thnx for this hub, have been searching for this information sumarised but is really hard without having free time.
Got to the point and very useful to professionals looking forward for a job in USA or many other places to travel.
Great job! College grads and young professionals need to seek out job locations that are filled with "creative class" young people: knowledge workers, high-tech workers, entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, where they can thrive and meet other creative, dynamic, stimulating young single people!
Actually teachers are in demand too. It's a stable career for those who love kids and want job satisfaction instead of just monetary rewards
awesome hub really liked it
Very informative and useful hub for young professionals, I will have to bookmark this for my 19 year old niece. Splenndid resourse guide.
I'm glad to see Denver on there, even if it's number 10 :(
New York and LA was top on my list. Thank you for compiling this one. It's really neat work.
Isn't it interesting that on your list of the top 10 job they are mostly health care? And for many of those there is little money to even pay people for good, quality care, such as social services and elder care (even day care). It's ironic that people fight having a national health care plan yet that is the fasted growing and most needed market. If all of these professionals are going in it then who is going to be their clientele. For these careers to succeed the public must have access. Instead, many of them are first on the chopping block for layoffs and budget cuts. The US is so darn backwards in the way they do some things.
Interesting and thought provoking hub!
I am happy to see New York on the list. My daughter is currently working there.
What a well researched and decisions' compass! This is an interesting hub....thumbs up!
Glad to know Denver is at least on the least, albeit in last place! I just moved to Colorado and am searching for a job; thanks for the well-written and -researched article!
I loved seeing the top ten cities - I currently live in NY and am considering relocating to another one of the top ten - Thanks for your help!

A well written well researched article. Worth preserving for reference.
