When Kung Fu Nuggets Strike!

On the Isle of Lost Words

It was a dark and stormy night in a land without an alphabet.

Once, on the fringes of civilization, there lay an isolated nation that was not quite an island, but surrounded on three sides by beautiful water. Further inland were pine forests and mists rising each morning. Artisans created numerous masterpieces and musicians plied their trade. Poets recited and orators spoke.

Alas, but there was no alphabet and no written language in this country. The people attempted to use the alphabet of other nations, finding them awkward and cumberson in the 6,000 or more letters. The oral tradition in literature and government was strong, but the people longed to write, because there was much to write about and ink-and-brush writing in their own alphabet would be a prized art, if only they possessed it.

Finally, the Good King sat gazing at the panes in his window one day and suddenly saw a plan for a simple alphabet, created from the lines joining various adjacent panes of glass. He devised s simpler, 24-character alphabet for the people that was named Han Gul. This was the people's alphabet.

It was a happy day. The written and spoken word in good form, format, and focus became highly esteemed in public and private life in this place. Libraries abounded. Illuminated scrolls lined palace walls. Peasants wrote on whatever they cound find and some lovely art pieces of ink and brush were produced. Anyone could perform this art.

And so, the art of writing in this simple alphabet became widely known in this country and abroad. The first book written in this language was Tales of 10,000 Dragons Flying(although you may see simplified titles in translations).

Government offices in this land were decided by essay authorship, the best piece of writing winning the office for the job candidate. If one could not write and speak well, then one could not hold office, secure a good job, serve in the military, or rise in the ranks of many of the fine arts, craft arts, performance arts, and similar undertakings. In this country, the word was gold and the alphabet a precious gift to the people from their king.

There was a grandmaster of the word in the land and he or she became the Living National Treasure of writing, among the Treasures of poetry, screen painting, musical instruments, voice, laquer shoe making, pottery, archery, wrestling, every other sport, and so forth.

Other countries invaded and imposed their writing systems upon the small nation, imposing censorship as well. They attempted to displace good writing with lesser material and attempted to squelch literacy - to no avail!

Some people in the world even in the 21st Century fight for the freedom to speak and to write. It is an ongoing battle that some lose. Freedom of writing within guidelines and earning recognition and affiliate income is a pleasure that we enjoy at HubPages. We urge everyone to take advantage of this gift, because it is free to sign up here.

At HubPages, the HubNugget Team recognizes new writers in our Top 10 HubNugget Wannabes this week, reminiscent of a tradition of a small nation that taught invaders about rising above the ordinary

Voting for HubNuggets Wannbes

We would like for you to vote for one of the new writer's Hubs listed below and hope that you have enjoyed reading all of the selections.

During World War II, the American Smedley Butler was appreciated in China for helping the people to the extent that the people and government awarded him the Umbrella of 10,000 Blessings. It was a lovely large Chinese umbrella decorated with many streamers on which the reasons for this honor was given to him. For a Wannabe to receive a vote from you, appreciated Reader, is like receiving 10,000 blessings. Many Thanks!

Thank you friends, Hello hello and emohealer! Every vote is precious.

Sometmes we forget that not everyone has the Internet, legal permission to write anything, or even the ability to write. It gives me a new perspective!

Just finished reading all the hubs. They're all good.

Sadly I could only vote for one.

Thanks for the nomination! There's a lot of great hubs here!

It is, indeed, a great privilege to be able to write and share a bit of your life with another. I sometimes forget that there are places in the world where this is simply impossible - either because of low education standards or because of censorship. We are truely blessed to have the freedoms that we have.

Patty, what a great hub and intro to this weeks HubNuggets. How easily it is to take our freedom of writing for granted. I am so happy to be among the "Freedom Writers" at HubPages.

Now to get down to reading. Congratulations! to all the nominees.

I am so incredibly thankful that I came across this site on a fluke a few weeks ago. The stories and articles that I've read on here have been outstanding. I just can't say how pleased I am to have the opportunity that this site provides.

I'd like to say thank you so incredibly much for the nomination! It's flattering on any level to have been nominated, but knowing that I'm writing amongst the caliber of authors that I am just makes it that much more so. Writing is always something I've wanted to do or would do at least in private and this is the first time I've ever posted anything I've written so publicly. This experience has started off amazingly for me.

Thank you again so much and I look forward to the diversity of subjects and styles of the talented hubbers on here!

Voted! Superb as always! Of course, as Master Of The Universe, I've always known the center was in Tulsa. Now that everyone knows where it is, I guess I'll have to move it to Paducah, KY.

Thanks so much for capturing my good side as I hobbled away on one claw. It took years to perfect that move. It's part of the Jack Kune Do system, which is a lesser known discipline that was derived from Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do. Almost all of the movements are based on the idea of retreat, because our motto is "Discretion is the better part of valor!"
