Hot Jobs in High Demand 2011 - 2016 - Economic Recovery

By Patty Inglish, MS

4,5,6 Million Jobs

Spring 2012 saw a reduction in job openings usually listed across Internet sites with a total of 4 Millions openings being stable day-to-day.

At any given time In March 2011, USA enjoyed about 5.5 Million jobs actively listed on the Internet in Internet Job Search postings and on recruiters' sites, employers' individual websites, and county jobs services sites. Some jobs are not advertised at all on the Internet, and other, Hidden Job Markets, within certain groups of companies are harder to uncover. Over 6 Million jobs are often available in America and are projected to increase through 2016.

For information on the leading industries hiring from 2009 - 2012, see the article at What Industries are Hiring the Most Workers?

Jobs listings rose to July '08 with travel and vacations increasing, then fell after the 2008 Christmas and Holiday Season. However, job listings increased to February '09 and leveled out, but continued to fluctuate around that level, Increasing again for 6 months in 2010. Some states continued to experience increases in job listings in certain cites and regions. Texas is a good example of such economic health. Job listings increased by 200,000 across the Interent just from March to mid-July 2011, and this was after the usual summer jobs were filled..

Nearly half of the top job listings are in Healthcare. Others seem to be in retail sales, service, and dining, all part of business and sales.

Four Industry Sectors Contain the Most Jobs

The most jobs listings are in categories that involves SALES. The second greatest number of job openings are listed in Healthcare, with the third highest being in Management of some sort, whether Retail, Food Service, or some other industry. The last entry is a single listing category for tax preparation that would include Accounting Professions. Forensic Accounting is becoming a growing industry sector in the 21st Century in light of several financial scandals in the nation and the need to better control finances and eliminate waste..

In 2009, an increase in tax preparation services occurred, because of such events and problematic or overwhelming situations as 1) amended tax returns for larger deductions and refunds, 2) catch-up of un-filed tax returns, and 3) tax audits and related matters.

Why Projections Change

Employment trends and actual job listings differ by state and by metropolitan area within the US States.

Federal projections for future jobs are produced by government statisticians and analysts for a decade at a time, such as 2004 - 2014 and 2006 - 2016 and there is some time overlap as well as differences in job projections that arise with the emergence of new industries and new occupations. Some jobs essentially go out of existence and new jobs are offered as technologies advance.

Overlapping decades provides a background for adjusting trends to other important factors that may include increasing or decreasing populations and other elements. The Recession 2008 - 2009 had some affects upon job listing trends, as did the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding. Employment trends can change rapidly and it is wise to read business and employment projection news.

The State of Texas experienced a small increase in Unemployment rate overall in June, 2009, but several cities remained at around only 5-6% while the nation topped over 10% unemployment during the same time. See a market-by-market review at Texas Job Markets.

I think I accedentally lost a comment from medarj - Sorry!

Thanks for the comments -- Physical therapists will be a GREAT demand through 2100 actually, because of the aging populations living longer and having joint/muscle conditions. A nationalized healthcare plan may offer the option of voluntary euthansia at end of life, but I have not read the bill and can't say for sure.

Wow thanks a lot! Very useful information there, and a very worked on hub indeed!

Indeed, I expected Computer Software Engineers to be higher than 4th on the projections, because of the importance computers will have on the near future, but anyways, 4th is still a good position for that...

Cool hub. I don't know if we got the bid for the 2016 Olymics in Chicago but I hope we got/get it. Illinois is in such a terrible way because our former governer was a theif and overspender. 60 million dollars, or something, to put his nameplates over the toll roads. Anyway, I hope to see a great deal of jobs to greet the influx of tourists. Yey! Maybe Illinois can get out of this debt hole with the tax money too! With more people working, more taxes are being paid rather than food stamps given out. Awesome.

I saw

6. AVON Independent Sales Representatives

And I thought, "hey, I didn't expect to see that there", but then it's obvious. These aren't jobs, they are opportunities for people to start their own business and so recruitment to these will have escalated over the last 18 months. They're advertising anywhere and everywhere they can because more people are prepared to give it a go, so it makes sense that any company like this is advertising more in a downturn.

It's not a "job" job, so shouldn't really show up imho.

Patty Inglish, MS profile image

Patty Inglish, MS Hub Author 2 years ago

It's listed under jobs in online job engines and offers more openings than some paycheck jobs, so it's included. In fact, more and more employment may become freelance and independent contractor, so the very nature of "job" is changing and must be accepted.

The Tax professionals/tax preparers one interested me, but now that I think about it, I can see how that would be a very necessary part of the economy.

1) All of the lost jobs & income & the government is going to have no choice but to start auditing more because of their lost revenues via less taxes.

2) Because of #1 - people should make a point of being VERY careful about their taxes & make sure they do them the right way.

The medical field is experiencing a bubble right now. 8 out of the top 10 jobs are medical. This is bound to crash. Govt healthcare reform will probably be the cause. It seems however, that sales jobs will always be needed. In the end, a company/person has to sell something to generate revenue.

What I'm worried about is the role of financial professionals (portfolio managers, stock traders, etc.) and the demand for them right now and in the future. Like a lot of opportunistic people, I chose to major in finance at university right now because of the changing economic conditions. What do you think of the outlook for people such as myself?

These are great data, btw. Very helpful :)

Patty Inglish, MS profile image

Patty Inglish, MS Hub Author 2 years ago

Finance Professionals tackle a lot of different aspects of investment, insurance, and other financial product-services; so get to know as many types of procutes and services as you can. The fastest growing cities in each of teh United States are suburbs that are near big cities that have a growing need for finance people through 2018 or 2020. I've done Hubs on some of them (search "jobs" and fastest growing." NYC is the biggest spot, but there are many others. You might need to mvoe to a job. People in their 30s now will be looking increasingly for portfolios to finance their retirement and this makes the profession viable. Some businesses are growing fast in America and will be looking for financial products.

Remember that McDonalds has made and likely still makes its most money from real estate deals, requiring finance services.

Try hotel sales and catering. Every hotel employes 1-10 or more sales and catering people. Hospitality is one of the world's largest employers. Start entry level at 40-60K. Advance to 60-100K in approximately 5 years. It's a fun career with lots of job opportuniteis. Try ahla or aprinda.com for online certificates to get started fast
