The Cisholm Train Led to Business

Approximately 20 miles from Austin, Round Rock has a population of about 97,000 people in 2009. Form 2000 – 2000, population growth was over 51%. Compared to the rest of America, Round Rock residents enjoy a favorable cost of living that is 16.14% lower than the national average.

The orginal town site was called Brushy for the Brushy Creek, in which there was a large round rock. The local postmaster helped rename the town Round rock after the rock in the local creek. However, heavy railroad construction pushed the town site eastward and the orignal site becaome Old Town Round Rock. Revitalization and restoration projects in Old Town help keep the local history alive and act as a tourist attraction.

Round Rock was affted by the Chisholm Trail as well as Ameircan railroads coming through the area. aAs the trail became filled with cattle on the way to market, railroads, and finally highways followed.

Mr. Jesse Chisholm marked a after the Civil War, about in 1865. He began at the Canadian River in Oklahoma and went through Wichita, Kansas. His intent was to use the trail to trade with the regional Native Americans. When he began to deliver cattle to market on the trail, other followed suit. An access trail connected Round Rock with the Chisolm and highways followed later.

Although unincorporated as of 2009, The Woodlands is a place that has 75,800+ residents people and its growth has been over 36% from 2000 - 2009. Teh cost of livign is over 9% lower here than in America as a whole.

The community began in 1972 as the Mitchell Energy and Development Corporation began to develop a 23,000-acre planned bedroom community for Houston, called The Woodlands. It grew so fast that it became its own separate community.

Businesses moved into the Woodlands, including Chevron Phillips, Anadarko Petroleum, and others, including a large shopping mall and seven golf courses. A concert arena and a large resort are also located nearby. High-rise offices and apartment buildings then grew in the Woodland and increased population and commercial enterprise further. Museums and other attractions have also built in The Woodlands and additional community plans call for additional construction and eventual incorporation.

In 2007, Senator Tom Williams and Representative Robert Eissler passed legislative bills that called for publics vote to allow development of The Woodlands Township to allow sales tax collection, along with other measures. Houston may have wished to annex The Woodlands previously, but because of mutual agreements, Houston will release the community so that it may incorporate itself via a public election in 2014. The Woodlands have similar agreements with nearby Conroe, Texas. The Woodlands will likely become an incorporated city in 2014.
