Beautiful as a famous young songstress in France, she was later known in America as an actress.
She portrayed the communications officer Uhura of Star Trek The Original Series.
Nichelle, whose name is actually Grace, is also an author of the Saturn's Child science fiction novel series. She is beautiful in word and deed as well as in appearance during her senior years as well as during her youth. She wrote an autobiography that included some surprising material from her Star Trek® years.
I have met this celebrity and role model her at conventions, where she has helped recruit minorities and women for NASA.

It was harder to retouch photos in the antique 1970s magazines than it is today, so she looked pretty good in her 70s.
BlackGlamma still does such ads, with younger celebrities, so look for them! The series was begun during an era when wearing fur signalled high social status and wealth. Today, stars like Janet Jackson and others are posing in mink.

Comics heroine of the 1914 October Revolution in Russia.
Her look has changed for the 21st century, but I think the image of her in an antique 1960's edition I have seen is dazzling!

Nice hub Patty, and a great list. Very Diverse, and I couldn't argue with a single one! As for Hoodala's comments about Natalie, I can see how people can find her "skeletal", but to me she has a very Audrey Hepburn quality about her.... and I wouldn't call her skeletal or either one "icky" ;-)

I wouldn't call Natalie Portman skeletal, either. "Elfin" might be the right word for her. In "Closer" she played a lap dancer quite convincingly, as I recall. And she has all the equipment for it. And she's a Harvard graduate, I believe. Beauty and brains in a single package.

I remember her on SNL where she was hilarious in a number of sketches - the ones with the exotic parents where she sat with a huge magnifiying glass in front of her face, hyper at the protein drink bar, etc. Cute and talented.

It is fun. I first saw Mariska as a amall animated woman on a kid's Saturday morning game show sort of thing years ago. When Law and Order arrived, I recognized her voice and her hair. Much fun.
Great list - I agree about Audrey Hepburn though - she would always be on my top ten list.
Nice hub, Patty. Lena Horne, Jayne Mansfield and Claudette Colbert are actresses I''ve enjoyed in movies for years. I don't know much (or anything) about the others. Other names that come to mind are Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable and Rhonda Fleming. Personally, I always liked Maureen O'Hara.

The new Star Trek film at the end of 2008 will be interesting, in that younger actors will portray Uhura and the rest at the Academy. I don't know if they can compare with the originals.

Uhura has great legs. Halle Berry is an alltime favorite of mine. Natalie Portman is skeletal and icky. Great list I agree with all except Natalie.
