Searchlight, Nevada has grown in population by 39% from 2000 to 2010. The home of Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) enjoyed an upswing in business at the end of March 2010 as Tea Party groups traveled in busloads to the village in order to campaign against Senator Reid in the November 2010 elections. Inadvertantly, they helped to make Searchlight a sort of convention desitnation.

The large rally has the effect of bringing many business dollars into the growing village. Searchlight is a bit isolated in the southern part of Clark County, and nearer Bullhead City, Arizona and Laughlin NV than to Las Vegas; however, it is reported as a good retirement area.

Searchlight lies at the crossroads of Highway 164 and State Route 95 and has its own public airport. Approximately 55 miles south of Las Vegas, the village is about 40 miles north of Bullhead City at the end of the north-south arm of Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The Mojave National Preserve is just to the southwest. Highway 161 is Cotton wood Cove coming in from the East and Nipton Road leaving to the West. Ten resort-hotels and 10 golf courses are a among the top draws in Nevada and more are in the works. Sport fishing and native American petroglyphs interest tourists as well and a number of organized tours around the desert and Colorado River attractions are offered in the warm weather all year long. The most popular attractions include the Xtreme Bulls Ride Hard Tour, the Laughlin River Run, the Pirates of the Colorado Regatta (sounds especially fun) and Fourth of July celebrations. A major infrastructure project is also underway in partnership with Laughlin involving an interstate bridge. The completion of this bridge will enhance business and commerce between the two cities and the states of Nevada and Arizona.
