How to Find High Paying Jobs

Some of the most highly paid job titles in America may not be advertised at all. They may be within the hidden job market, or available only to Executive Recruiters/Head Hunters with which a potential job candidate might need to register and pay for the privilege of such information. Please see the links fpr Executive Recruiters below for lists and professional reviews of top executive recruiting firms, both domestic and international.

Considering Internet-advertised jobs of all pay scales, two job search engines collect all of the jobs everywhere they appear on the Internet and are also publically accessible. These two are Indeed.com and SimplyHired.com. When searching for a job, we can remember that both of these job search engines provided separate search engines for many different nations. These nations are usually listed across the bottom of the home page of each of the two engines mentioned.

Huffington Post List for 2010

Top 10 Highest Paid Jobs, lowest to highest salary, from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics in May 2010.

  • Psychiatrists - $166,000+
  • CEO - $167,000+
  • Family/General Practitioners - $168,000+
  • Physicians and Surgeons - $178,000+
  • Physicians: Internists - $183,900+
  • Ob-GYN - $208,000+
  • Orthodontists - $206,000+
  • Oral Surgeons - $210,000+
  • Anesthesiologists: $211,000+
  • Surgeons: $219,000+

For the related full Slide Show presentation, please see: HUFFINGTON POST

We can see from this list that all of the 10 job titles are directly involved in the Healthcare Industry, although CEOs can be physicians as well and lead healthcare organizations. It is reasonable to assume, then, that a proportion of the CEOs in this list are also physicians. The US Bureau of Statistics therefore shows that the position of physician is generally the most highly paid in the USA, although some non-doctor CEOs receive larger compensation packages, especially in bonuses. This last phenomenon has been a point of contention between the Federal Government and Corporate America, especially from 2008 - 2010.

Hi Sandyspider! - And medical school is so expensive, but some schools offer programs of loan-forgiveness for working in economically depressed regions. Some IT training is less expensive and a good choice.

I don't know how our changing healthcare system will affect physician salaries yet!

Hello, hello! - Thanks for visitng my hubs! I think also, as healthcare reform seeks to cust costs, that there will grow a much larger - huge really - market for Nurse Practitioners and the small clinics in groceries and drug stores. I visited one a block from my house, for the start of an eye infection 6 years ago, was handled straightforwardly and professionally, and cured very quickly. All for less than half the price of a Physician's visit - sorry, doctors; I don't mean any insult.

As a lawyer for more than 15 years, I'd say the average salary is right on. As far as time required to make that $$, probably add about 1,000 hours per year. *sigh*

Thanks for this interesting coverage. I was interested to see that one of the new Denver Broncos quarterbacks, Tim Teebow from Florida was offered a contract for 33 million dollars over the next 6 years. But I wonder what the average salary is for an NFL player? In contrast, I've been content with an English Professor's meager salary for 40 years but obviously money was notthe majorconcern.

"Top 10-Highest Paying Jobs Advertised in America" is really an interresting and excellent hub.

The food for thought is what is that thing which made these jobs the top ten jobs. They are those who relieve the pain and suffering of the people. People are not unwise they know where to spend and where not to spend. These top ten job givers should alsohave the food for thought that those who pay them they take their services. They may take or may not take. Who goave this, kowledge, wisdom and expertise that attracted the employers and who put attraction for these top tens in the hearts and minds of the payers. The answer from both side will be the Creator of the both and also of all that is there in the universe.

All provison and sustenace is in the hands of the Creator and it is He who is Controller of all affairs. We all whether active or passive, at the top or bottom, belog to Him and shall have to return unto HIm. Here during this short pan of life our role is under test as to what we do for the welfare, well being and well sishing of the whole mankind according to our best ability sincerely and honestly, correectly and fairly, properly and pleasantly to maintain the dignity of mankind in all our performances.

May God bless all.

hmm... interesting hub. I understand that physicians pay in the range of $50-120,000 for malpractice insurance each year in the US... mind you, often they are 'retained' (or 'owned' as they would have it in the biz) by a hospital or consortium who pays this cost on their behalf. It's understandable why Americans pay so much for their medical care...whew!

gene.hammett 19 months ago

This information makes it seem like being a CEO is the career to aim for. But what is missing is that rarely can you aim for such a high position within in a company. I would think it is better to aim to be the BEST at what you do and DO something that you really enjoy (aka passionate about). Then you will have riches beyond your dreams.

This was a very interesting article. I would have thought, doctors would have made more money than that. They sure do have to go through a lot to make so little. I think that the internet is the best way to make money. Before long, this will be the job path that everyone will take.

Great post. This is very helpful information, so thank you for sharing. This can help students decide on what course to take when they get to college. Aside from the jobs you have mentioned, nurses also have good salary.

Within positions that are advertised in 2010 and 2011, yes. There are, however, long-time CEOS with larger salaries and CEOS that accept only $1.00 per year and accept Million$ in bonuses.

Getting paid is very important I mean we all need to put dinner on the table and having a job with a good salary goes a long way.

However we gotta pick a career that we can live with because if you dont like what you are doing it is really hard to succeed in it

The healthcare industry will definitely see a lot of growth over time: nursing and the associated careers (physical therapy and speech/language therapy) are great opportunities to consider. Very interesting list, especially as I prepare to re-enter the workforce after the little one goes to kindergarten!

Nice hub! As for some of the commentary, going to college for 4 years and then medical school for 4 years all on loans, I'm currently over $200,000 in debt to the government. During residency, the top salary is for chief resident surgeons, and that ends up being about $55,000 a year, for an 80/week work hour restriction. We do, eventually, make good money as attendings, but I will have been (if you consider an hourly wage) making under minimum wage for 8 years of training after 8 previous years of medical school. I have trouble paying my bills month to month. Just some food for thought - CEO may indeed be a more fruitful proposition if timeliness and lifestyles are considered :)

Hi, Patty...Glad to see RN made the list of jobs on the rise. One of my granddaughters will soon be graduating from nursing school.

The only "gripe" I have about the jobs with high salaries is that I've known far too many CEOs who were not worth their high pay, stock options and other valuable perks. When they proved next to worthless, to the detriments of the companies they headed, none of it was taken away from them when relieved of their posts. So unfair! JAYE

It is not new to see that most careers that top the rankings are on the medical fields. They deserve to be paid that much because they really work very hard as well. I am just a bit surprised thought that software engineers are only on the top 10 because I know few people who are sr software engineers who make more than some of the medical professionals mentioned in the top 10. Great info!
