Waltham, Massachusetts is ranked as America's Number 28 Best City out of 100 top cities to make your home. Ratings were published by Money Magazine online in 2010.

A few miles south of Waltham is Newton MA, population 82,000+, standing in the Number 3 Position, also a growing economy. Both suburbs are located about 8 miles to the west of Boston and have access to over 100,000 job listingss.many things to do, places to go, and a well maintained and effective rail system that allows for future growth.

The local highway system promotes area growth as well, with increasing numbers of medical and techology companies moving to Route 128/I-95.

Area residents posting on a variety of community bulletin boards point to the attractions on Moody Street, along the Charles River, Prospect Hill, and a large number bike/hike trails and much open space as drawing cards to a good life outside of work. Some other residents say that they call themselves "Waltham Walkers" in the annual Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk.

Waltham is receiving $7 Million in grants with which to improve housing for moderate- and low- income earning individuals in the city. This includes 40% or more of the total community number of households. This will enhance the quality of life for all residents in a better environment and help to draw additional commercial business to Waltham.

According to the city website, The Waltham-Cambridge Area is also the state center for bio-technology research and manufacturing, mainly along Route 128. It is already evident that bioscience professionals and technicians, specifically Biochemists, Biophysicists, and Bioengineers; along with related techs, are among the top jobs for growth in the US to 2020 and beyond.

Cotton Mills - Museums, Commerical, and Residential Space

Cotton and Textiles

Waltham was an agricultural community in its beginnings, adding cotton and textile production through the Civil War Era, and diversifying to Technologies in the 2000s.

Many cotton mills in the Greater Boston Area have been turned into community agencies or museums and many are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Boott Cotton Mills have been redone as lofts and commercial spaces for rent. Some textile manufacturing and/or distribution still occurs in the Waltham area as well.
