Employment Projections in USA and UK

Setting aside some higher-paid corporate CEOs and self-employed entrepreneurs, Physicians, Specialists, and Surgeons, all representing the Healthcare Industry will likely continue to receive the highest salaries in America through 2020. However, this is probably true only if the new national healthcare reform laws of 2010 - 2011 do not change pay scales and Usual and Customary insurance reimbursement structures in a way that reduces income for these professionals.

A portion of medical practitioners mentioned above left the practice of general medicine and specialities in the 2000s, because of increasing malpractice insurance costs. Other physicians have begun to reject new patients that 1) are self-pay [have no insurance] or 2) receive Medicare coverage. If insurance reimbursements decline in the amounts usually awarded, then we may see additional physicians leaving the practice of medicine and medical specialities.

National employment projections for America were completed for the 2008 - 2018 decade and published in the fall of 2010 to replace projections for the 2006 - 2016 decade. While national projections for 2010 - 2020 will be released likely in 2012, some states and metro areas have already established such projections. Many of these include a high proportion of healthcare professionals.

The United Kingdom already has a set of employment projections for 2020 in London. the document is called Destinations 2020 and predicts that the UK will follow London in its economic and job growth to 2020.

We will have a look at salaries of the highest paying jobs in both USA and UK among these projections mentioned above.

Consistent Increases Show In American Jobs Through Early 2012

Highest Paying Jobs to 2018 in the USA

According to the US Federal statistics in employment projections to 2018, the US has only seven (7) job titles categories as Very High Wages:

  1. Network Systems and Data Communications Analysts. 53+% increase in jobs. Bachelor's degree.
  2. Computer Software Engineers, Applications. 34% increase. Bachelor's degree.
  3. Management Analysts. 24% increase. Bachelor's or Advanced and work experience.
  4. Registered Nurses (RNs). 22.2% increase. Associates degree, 3-yr RN, or 4-yr BSN.
  5. Physicians and Surgeons. 21.8% increase. Professional degree(s)
  6. Accountants and Auditors - includes Forensic Accounting. 21.7% increase. Bachelor's degree.
  7. Postsecondary (College/University/Training) Teachers with a Doctoral Degree. 15% increase.

Among the jobs listed above, the first three are involved in IT (Information Technology). two are in Healthcare, one in Accounting, and one in Higher Education. The two IT positions are predicted to increased at much higher rates than any of the others in the list. This is particularly true of the Network Systems occupations and Systems and Software positions appear in Healthcare, Management Analysis, Accounting, and Education as well.

In my talks with healthcare providers, I sense and hear much uncertainty. In my area there have been many layoffs. From what I see, the bloom may be off this rose.

In the commonwealth of Massachusetts, NEW ENGLAND, U.S. of North America - you can make more money taking tolls on the Massachusetts Turnpike than you can as a physician with ties to Blue Cross etc. So we are noting an uptick in applications for money collecting ... I have not checked with Boston University Medical Center to see if there is an equal but opposite downturn in medical school apps.

Great hub, very informative! I agree, there is a high demand for physicans/physican assistants and nurse practitioners, and I predict that we will start seeing more and more people pursuing professional careers in healthcare.

Due to the state of the economy, I recently decided to put a hold on pursuing my Masters in Counseling and pursue a B.S.N. to become an RN. Upon graduation, I intend to gain experience in the field and pursue a graduate program that will allow me to become a Nurse Anethetist (CRNA). The average salary in the U.S. in this field is about $130,000 and all you have to have is a Masters degree. Currently, I am only a pre-nursing major, but I have done my research, and I am looking forward to the challenge! :)

Again, thank you for the information and I look forward to reading more of your work!

Because Monsanto has a legal control on all the seeds. Chemically treated so you can't save seed from a harvest and plant it next year. Won't It is going to be WAY expensive to be a large-farm farmer.

Heirloom seeds you can plant year-to-year are the way urban and small farmers are going.

In 2011 - 2012, we are hjaving an upsurge in Skilled Trades, especially among technicians in the automotive, aeronautics and aviation, oil & gas (N. Dakota) industries, so we will see BIG changes in estimates for the 2012 - 2022 decade govt projections!

Clericals Admins and Secretaries? Still declining many places. We'll take another look in 2012. Same with Plabnt and Machine IOperations, but that may increase as Skilled Trades increase. Thanks for commenting!!

Your welcome, you earned it! Good research and well written. I have 3 adult kids, banking, aerospace and oil and they are doing well, waiting to see what direction my 2 high school-ers (10 years behind my adult kids) go. Hubby is in aerospace, but recently that particular sector of aerospace has been hard hit, glad to hear it will pick up soon.

Well-researched and well-done. Now...if only my brain were actually wired to do one of those occupations. Hehehehe. Voted up.

Thanks for this hub.

I was wondering if you have written any hubpages about points of consideration when relocating to another country for work (for example, when a Japanese doctor intends to work in the US, what are some of the important considerations?)

I've written only about immigration regulations, but what aspects iterest you?

I'm interested to know about the differences or similarities of Educations of Doctors in the US and UK.

In Japan, a doctor's education takes 7 years to complete. The qualification is probably only recognizable in Japan. Unlike a medical qualification from the US or UK, it is widely accepted in many countries.

I'm interested to know why and whether there are differences and similarities to their Education.

Regards

We would probably need to contact a medical board in the USA to find why this is true.

It makes sense that jobs in the medical field have a high demand with our aging population. It's very expensive to get medical training but it appears to be worth the expense and effort.

Yes, incredibly expensive and time-intensive. Biographies I've read of physicians' training, internships and residencies make me shudder!

Interesting information for the college bound, but also for mothers whose children are grown and looking to go into another career. Thanks for the tips!

Fascinating. I wish I had studied something more useful the first time I was in school, but I fell right into the "do what you like!" trap we present our children. It may be nice to enjoy our degree or related jobs, but it doesn't always get the bills paid. It's pretty cool to see what would have worked or what would work if I chose to do something different.

i think it's not on what kind of job you have but on how you give value to it. you can always have the highest paying job or even the highest position but if you don't love it and value it, you'll never be satisfied. Passion & dedication are really important.
