Oil, George W. Bush, and Jobs

Midland is equidistant from El Paso and Fort Worth, hence the name that indicates the mid-way point ('land in the middle'). Combined with Oddessa about 19 miles away, the two cities make up the Odessa-Midland Metro Area in West Texas. Odessa-Midland as a metropolitan area sits in the Permian Basin of West Teax, in the midst of OIL. President George W. Bush has lived in both cities. Midland is his home after his terms as POTUS.

Vasrious sources report 600-700 companies in or near Midland TX thathave dealt in oil and the processing of petroleum and petroleum products. Jobs in these and related industries can be found at Crude Oil & Natural Gas Extraction jobs in Midland, TX. These jobs pay an annual salary of from $28,000 to $166,000 with the average being $56,000 per year.

Alternative Energy Jobs in Midland have a shorter wage range of $28,000 - $96,000 per year, but a higher average at $62,000 annually. These jobs can be found on the same job board and on Craisglist at http://odessa.craigslist.org/.

The Permian Basin runs beneath Midland, Odessa, and many other cities in West Central Texas. A combination of smaller basins containing rocks from the Permian Era, Midland Basin is the largest such component and the Mid-Continent Oil Produncing Area is located in much of the larger basin as a whole, led by Midland and Odessa oikl and gas operations.

In 2006, CNNMoney.com compared Midland, Texas with the Top 10 Best Places to Live in the USA at that time. CNN found that Midland's Job growth between 2000 - 2005 was nearly 11% and the median family income was about $77,000, while 74.7% of residents had a health care coverage plan (leaving 25.3% without). These results were similar to the Top 10 Cities on average. One major difference was that the Cardiac Mortality Index (a measure of death from heart related problems) in Midland was 499+ per hundred thousand people, compared to just 202 per hundred-thousand average for all of the Top 10 Best Places taken together. Heart Health and health insurance were targeted as areas for focused improvement and have comer under scrutiny by Midland County officials and planning groups.

Very Very Nice Job Patty! Very Very Nice! BTW thanks for stopping by and leaving this link on my hub. I really appreciate that. Patty you really have a knack for digging in and getting the dirt on Dub-ya.

Jackalopes have their own Hockey Team? I learn something new everyday. Good Luck Patty on the B.T. campaign trail.

Patty, thank you for your ongoing support! You had me a little worried with your gravy and wild game hub, but I see now, that you stand firmly behind me, as your candidate for change. And, for the record, I have never taken money from "Big Oil". Or, at least there's no evidence to support that.

Dottie1 - There is so much material on GW Bush that I am overwhelmed. There is so much on all condidates, except our Hubbers, who are trnasparent in their intentions. The film W is creating quite an uproar. I am amazed at what the quest for power can do.

BT - I hope Big Oil changes some of its operations to Big Solar and Wind Power, etc. Many folks would prefer a Jackalope in office than any human bring attempting the office at this point.

Campaign on!

Wonderful hub, Patty. I don't want to disparage the great state of Texas, but I must say that it's better to have a Jackalope as president than a jackass, otherwise known as the incumbent. The campaign is heating up now, and there appears to be a swing toward my candidacy. I expect the debates to decide the issue. Thanks for the promo in the Community Corner.

See the UPDATE with current top listings for August 2009. Current available jobs do not always match lists of Projections made by the Federal, State, County, and City governments, all open to public review. Indeed.com and SimplyHired.com gather lists from more available jobs than most other job search engines and are very reliable.
