StoodThere.com published a list of the 100 Greatest Places to Stand in America for the 2010s. It is a fun trend-setting concept that lends itself to photography by travelers to all these places. The photos are posted on the website and you can add yours!

Carlsbad, New Mexico stands in the Number One spot on the Greatest 100 list, primarily for its location near Carlsbad Caverns National Park/Wilderness Area and other natural attractions in southern and southeastern New Mexco. If you are intent upon enjoying this area of New Mexico, after you visit Carlsbad Caverns, you might like to journey 100 miles north to visit Roswell, the sight of new Area 51 controversies in the summer of 2011.

One hundred miles to the west of Carlsbad is Las Cruces, another interesting, friendly place to visit. The colleges and universities in these regions of New Mexico offer environmental degree programs and a number of associated new products that include green oil produced from green algae.

Carlsbad began as the town od Eddy in the late 1880s, but became famous for its bat cave discovered in 1901 and began producing bat-watching events through present times. Medicinal springs north of town are responsible for its being named for the European Karlsbad healing center with its mineral springs. Potash mining brought major revenues to the town and the National Park System brought the tourist trade.

Thanks for your research on New Mexico. There are a lot of possibilities for employment, and it sounds like a exciting place to be. It's interesting to know that we have other countries who are using our facilities to practice their military operations? There are a lot of interworld acceptance going on in the United States.

I lived there once, well not carlsbad, but yea. I didn't like it much. I'm not much of a western kind of guy, but more of a tropics and rainforest kind of guy.

Great hub nonetheless. As usual, very informative.
